Peggy Clardy

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Peggy Jean Clardy, 86, died Feb. 21, 2019, at Fair Haven Retirement Home. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Welch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joel Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Springs Cemetery in Maben. Visitation will be one hour prior services at the funeral home. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Clardy was born July 21, 1932, in Mathiston, to the late Jewel Clara Crowson Clardy and John William Andrew Clardy. She attended Self Creek Elementary School and was a 1949 graduate of Maben High School. She was formerly employed with Avondale Mills in Birmingham and attended Self Creek Baptist Church in Maben and Vinesville Baptist Church and Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Plummie Lee Reed Clardy; brothers, John William Arnold Clardy, Boyd Eugene Clardy and John William Whitt; and sisters, Clara Mae Clardy, Emmer Sue Clardy and Mary Elizabeth Clardy. She is survived by her sons, Bill Card of Knoxville, Tennessee, Eddie Card and Darrell Harper, both of Lilburn, Georgia; daughters, Tricia Walker and Lecia White, both of Sylacauga; brothers, Edd Clardy of Columbus, Gerald Clardy of Memphis, Earnest Lee Clardy of Tupelo and Sam Whitt of Fairhope; sisters, Marzell Blake of Saltillo and Juanita Holden of Maben; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
