Otis Jan King

Otis Jan King, age 92, one of the Greatest Generation, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at the Sanctuary Home Hospice in Tupelo, MS. The son of the late Otis Arthur and Ora Lee King, he was born in Newcastle, Texas, on March 20, 1920. A member of the Army Air Force and then the U. S. Air Force, he served his country from October 8, 1941, to January 1, 1963. In WWII he served in the India – Burma Theatre of Operations as an airplane crew chief on type C-54 and B-24 airplanes. He moved to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1963 and was employed by Armco National Production Systems, retiring with 21 years of service. He married Sarah Frances Ausborn on April 1, 1944, in Aberdeen, MS. He was an outdoorsman. He hunted and fished with a true passion. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in keeping his property looking beautiful. Mr. King is survived by two daughters, Patty McCorkle and son-in-law, Jim McCorkle of Spring, Texas; Jan Kroutter and son-in-law, Paul Kroutter of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Four grandchildren: Chris McCorkle, Kim Jordan, Chas Woods and Mallory Coughlan. Two great-grandchildren: Ellie and Bekah Jordan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah; his parents; brothers, Clay, Douglas, Dusty, Kenneth and Travis King; and sisters, Mary Singleton and Odessa Robertson. Mr. King will be buried with full military honors during graveside services at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Oddfellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen, MS. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen, MS.
