STARKVILLE – Otha Lee “Buddy” Shurden, 77, died Jan. 13, 2021, at North MS Medical Center of Tupelo. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Life Church GTR, with Jody Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Visitation will be from 10-10:30 a.m. prior to services Saturday, at the church. Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Shurden was born Dec. 15, 1943, in Starkville, to the late Emory Otha and Homa Lee Phillips Shurden. He was a graduate of West Point High School and Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was formerly employed as a teacher and coach with Shivers Middle School and in sales and construction. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Carol Shurden; siblings, Michael Shurden, James Kelly Shurden and Lou Savage. He is survived by his children, Andy Shurden of Starkville, Chris Shurden of Nashville, Tennessee, Lynn Durr of Starkville, Brandi Blessike of Eupora and Brad Carson of Forest; siblings, Sandra Savage of Southaven, Linda Hammond of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Vicki Hill of New Hope and Lisa Shurden of Memphis, Tennessee; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Andy Shurden, Chris Shurden, Brad Carson, Ben Shurden, Hunter Carson, Dale Hill, William Durr and Barry Blessike. Memorials may be made to The Cross of Christ For Starkville, P.O.
