MILLPORT, Ala. — David Lee “Sugar Bear” Mitchell, 88, died Nov. 19, 2020, at DCH-Hospital of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Holly Grove M.B. Church, with the Rev. Richard Hood Sr. officiating. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mitchell was born Dec. 26, 1931, in Palmetto, Alabama, to the late Dave Mitchell and Louise Mitchell. He was formerly employed as a truck driver for Boyett’s Trucking Company and was a member of Holly Grove M.B. Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Carolyn Hayden and Melissa Hannah; siblings, Lillie Mae Gardner, Harvey Ray, Franklin Dee, and Buster Lee; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his wife, Dosie Maxine Mitchell; children, David L. Mitchell Jr., Riletta Baker, Angale Williams all of Columbus, Steve Jordan of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Gary Mitchell, Virginia Hannah, Stephanie Cox, Jason Anderson, Tony Bridges all of Millport and Regina Williams of Caledonia; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
