AMORY — James Ruben Gill, 95, died May 17, 2020, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, with Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Visitation will be an hour and a half prior to services at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gill was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Arkansas, to the late Dewey Gill and Delphia English Gill. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was formerly employed with the Highway Department, Raley Construction, Walker Manufacturing and for Sam Jaynes at Continental Engineering. He was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, William Gill, Myrtle Darnell, Dorothy North and Faye Gill. He is survived by his wife, Helon Gilmore Gill; children, Barbara Byrd of Smithville, James R. Gill Jr. of Michigan, David Gill of Atlanta and Thomas Gill of Michigan; siblings, Genie Bolle of Texas, Edward Gill of Birmingham and Robert Fill of Hamilton; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
