George Edward Williams, 80 of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital– Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. A family graveside service will be Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Murrah’s Chapel Cemetery, Columbus, MS, with Bro. Jack Taylor officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Friends may view the service online at www.lowndesfuneralhome.net the following day Mr. Williams was born November 16, 1939, to the late James Lamar and Marjorie Scoggins Williams in Crowville, LA. He moved to Columbus 40 years ago from Bastrop, LA. Mr. Wiliams was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired in 2004 after working 40 years at Weyerhaeuser/Bastrop Papermill as a Bi- Winder Operator. He was a member of Bread of Life Fellowship, Columbus, MS. Mr. Williams was a rancher and loved woodworking and being in the outdoors. He lived life to the fullest and loved everyone. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his brother- in-law, Billy Page; and son-in-law Loyd Lowery. Mr. Williams is survived by his daughters, Wendy Williams Lowery, Louisiana and Angela (Phillip) Pennington, Mississippi; son, James (Andra) Williams, Mississippi; sister, Dorothy Page; brother, Dennis (Sharon) Williams; 10 grandchildren, Becky (Mark) Henderson, Amber (Dean) Olden, Jennilee (Brandon) Massey, Zachary Robinson, Christina Williams, James Bradley (Tracey) Williams, Ashley Elliott, Tyler Elliott, Wendy Pennington and Kayla (Justin) Flye; and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be James Bradley Williams, Justin Flye, Tyler Shaw Elliott, Corey Pennington, Jeremy Harpole and Scotty Brackin. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
