Virginia Logan

Proverbs 31:28 — Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Virginia Banks Rogers Logan passed away peacefully at her home, in Steens, on Tuesday, April 16, at the age of 83. Virginia was born Sept. 6, 1935, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Bruce and Ila Rogers. She attended high school in Vernon before marrying the love of her life, Elbert, on Aug. 28, 1953 and spent the next 65 years at his side. The Logans lived in Austria during Elbert’s tour of duty in the U.S. Army before moving back home and starting a family. Virginia worked for Woolco and Fashion Barn in East Columbus and was one of the first employees hired at the original Wal-Mart in Columbus, where she retired after 20 years as clothing department manager. Virginia was also a longtime and faithful member of the East Columbus Church of Christ. Virginia was a devoted mother to her three children and a loving grandmother to five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She enjoyed attending baseball, softball, football games and any other activity her children and grandchildren were participating in and was their biggest supporter. Her strength, endurance, love and kindness will be remembered by all who knew her. Virginia leaves behind her husband, Elbert; daughters, Gail (Jimmy) Lowery of Columbus and Karen (Lee) O’Quinn of Clermont, Florida; son, Glenn (Debbie) Logan of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Logan Lowery of Starkville, Ginny (Allen) Swedenburg of Columbus, Kara Lee (Tyler) Cain of Tampa, Florida, Joshua Logan of Tucson, Arizona and Jacey (Bobby Ledenican) Logan of Tucson, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Katie Lowery of Reform, Alabama, Carson, Ila Kate and Caroline Cain of Tampa, Florida, Chipper and Ellie Swedenburg of Columbus and Paisley Ledenican of Tucson, Arizona; brothers, David, Jerry and Jimmy Rogers; sister, Marion Carr; half-brothers, Junior, Wayne and David Lee Rogers; and half-sisters, Merlene Christianson, Teresa Farrish and Brenda Nethery; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bruce Jr. and Bobby Rogers; and sisters, Elwanda Glasgow and Anglyne Butler. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Time of services will be Friday, April 19, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, College St. location. Family will greet visitors from 12:00 to 2:00 prior to the services. Officiating will be Kevin Kay of Caledonia, MS and assisted by Richard Terry of Spring Hill, TN.
