Maurine Hollis, age 88, of Columbus, MS, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 11:00 AM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Black officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Ms. Hollis was born on December 24, 1929, in Monroe County, MS, to the late Murray Lee and Minnie Mae Taylor. She was a faithful member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS. Ms. Hollis was very active in her church, loved God, and loved her Sunday school class, Sharing Workers. She loved her family, was always very supportive and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ms. Hollis enjoyed cooking very much especially baking cakes and enjoyed painting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dempsey Hollis; her sons, Gary Hollis and Steve Hollis; and her grandson, Jonathan Cooper. Ms. Hollis is survived by her daughter, Wanda (Jim) Cooper of Columbus, MS; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Hollis of Como, MS; sister, Christine (Bill) Crutchfield of Red Bay, AL; grandchildren, Todd Cooper, Lance Cooper, Katie Doughty, Cory Stevens, Jamie Nelson, Scott Hollis and Taylor Hollis; and great-grandchildren, Samara Cooper, Ben Cooper, Lola Cooper, Jacob Cooper, Mary Jo Doughty, Lily Stevens, Chloe Hollis and Lillian Hollis. Pallbearers will be Chris Doughty, Jeff Crutchfield, Scott Hollis, Cody Shappley, Jimmy Hildreth, Kory Sweatt and Jamie Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Youngblood, Doug Colvin, her Sunday School Class members and the Men of St. Stephen United Methodist Church.
