Robert M. “Chief” Starr, 92 of Caledonia, MS passed away, Friday, May 25, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, 2018, from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, West Point, MS with Father Channappa Reddy Basani officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Starr was born September 11, 1925, to the late Russell James and Catherine A. Champion Starr in Chicago, IL and moved to Caledonia, MS 35 years ago from Ft. Huachuca, AZ. He married Catherine A Corwin on April 10, 1949, and together they had 5 children. Mr. Starr served in the United States Army during World War II, Korean Conflict, and during the Vietnam Era and retired after 37 years of service in 1983. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, West Point, MS, the VFW, American Legion and Ducks Unlimited. Mr. Starr loved gardening and duck hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers – Timothy Starr, John Starr, Bernard Starr and Benedict Starr, sisters – Joan Truman and Nola Starr. Mr. Starr is survived by his wife of 69 years – Catherine A. Starr, Caledonia, MS; daughters – Michele L. Winters, Columbus, MS, and Rebecca A. Elaban, Arizona; sons – Robert J. Starr, West Virginia, Jack H. Starr, Caledonia, MS and William M. Starr, Cincinnati, OH; sister – Shirley Weihmeir, Creve Coeur, IL; brother – Joseph Starr, East Peoria, IL; 7 grandchildren – Brian Starr, Mindy Williams, Joseph Winters, Nalani Rulli, Danielle Elaban, Anna Starr and LeeAnn Starr; and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bill Starr, Bill Winters, Bob Starr, Jack Starr, Joseph Winters, Lee Elaban, Michael Salas, Josh Pounders and Cecil Pounders. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Turan and Jerry Pounders.
