Mrs. Edith Frances Ansel, died Saturday, September 16, at the age of 96. A resident of the Trinity Place Community in Columbus, Mississippi for over 22 years, she had recently moved to the Claiborne at Adelaide’s memory care community in Starkville. Edith was born in Peshastin, Washington on August 25, 1921, to Charles and Lou Miller who were early settlers and apple growers in the Wenatchee Valley. She was proud to be the first student to enroll in Wenatchee Valley College when it opened its doors in 1938. While there, Edith met Frank Peters and they married on July 19, 1939. They lived many years in Puyallup, Washington and later in Yuma, Arizona where they could often be found exploring the desert wildlife. She and her husband learned to speak Spanish and traveled extensively in Mexico. Their union lasted 48 years until Mr. Peters’ death. In 1988, Edith married a neighbor and good friend, Ormand Ansel. They lived happily together for six years and traveled widely until Ormond’s death in 1994. By the time she was no longer able to travel, she had been to Russia, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, Great Britain, Western Europe, and Turkey. Throughout her lifetime, Edith always had a love for books. As a child, she loved when friends came to dinner because her mother’s guest would dry the dishes after dinner and she could spend that time reading. Her family is convinced that the hundreds of books she has read over the years have added considerably to her long and happy life. Edith was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; and her brothers, Ray, Dick and Bobby Miller. She is survived by her son, Robert (Connie) Peters of Puyallup, her daughter Mrs. Sue (Ronald) Snow of Starkville, and her sister Mrs. Jean Fraser of Kennewick, Washington. In addition, Mrs. Ansel is survived by five grandchildren whom she loved dearly; James Peters, Dan Peters, Mrs. Cathy Harris, Andy Snow, and Wesley Snow. She also leaves five great-grandchildren. A memorial service For Mrs. Ansel will be conducted at Trinity Independent Living in the Stanley Room on Saturday, September 23rd, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Stacey Parvin officiating. The family would like to express their gratitude to Edith’s caregivers, Ms Annie Hubbard and Ms Catherine Selvie. In addition they would like to thank the caring staff at the Claiborne Memory Care Unit and at Trinity Assisted living as well as the staff at Camellia Hospice. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, 314 N. 7th Street, Columbus, MS 39701 or to the Starkville Public Library, 326 University Drive, Starkville, MS 39759 with the designation, “Edith Ansel Large Print Book Fund”.
