Curtis Carlyle Collums, age 92, of Columbus, MS, passed away May 26, 2017, at Trinity Personal Care. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Breck Ladd officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus with military honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Memorial Funeral Home, 716 2nd Ave. North, Columbus, MS, 39701. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Collums was born September 11, 1924, in Ferrall, MS, to the late Jimmy and Addie Cannon Collums. He was a graduate of Marks, MS, High School. Mr. Collums received his bachelors degree from Delta State University and his masters degree from the University of Mississippi. He was principal for many years at Franklin Academy and member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mr. Collums served his community, coached little league baseball, was a Boy Scout leader, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and playing musical instruments. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Reid Collums, son, Gerald Collums, and 9 siblings. Survivors include his sons, Carl Collums and his wife Carol of Columbus, MS, Hal Collums and his wife Paula of New Orleans, LA, and Larry Collums of Columbus, MS, special friend, Betty Scott and her family, sister, Jesse Smith and her husband Dolph of Ripley, TN, grandchildren, Leah Glade and her husband Darrell of New Orleans, LA, and Reid Collums and his wife Camille of Los Angeles, CA, and great grandchildren, Curtis and Alice Glade. Pallbearers will be Senator Chuck Younger, Curtis Barfield, Frank Thomas, Aubrey Collums, Paul Scott, and Steve Scott.
