STARKVILLE — Wendell Watts Gibson, 83, died Jan. 18, 2017, at his residence. Services are at 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church sanctuary with Giles Linley, Prentiss Gordon and the Rev. Stacy Parvin officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation is two hours prior to services. Mr. Gibson graduated from Damascus High School and attended East Mississippi Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was previously employed with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. He was a member of Starkville Shrine Club, the Albert Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and served on the Starkville Board of Aldermen and the board of Starkville Parks and Recreation. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Viva Gibson; and sister, Jimmie Hopper. He is survived by his wife, Sue Johnson Gibson of Starkville; daughter, Wendy Gibson Jolly; sister, Carolyn Griffin of Plantersville; brothers, Norman Gibson of Kosciusko, Mark Gibson of DeKalb and Jerry Gibson of Madison; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
