James Michael Rhodes, age 64, of Columbus died Friday, July 22, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Robert F. Rhodes, Jr., officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, July 25, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. The son of the late James Chester Rhodes, Mr. Rhodes was born March 7, 1952 in Columbus, MS. He was a graduate of S.D. Lee Senior High School in Columbus. He retired from the US Army with twenty years of service with the rank of Sergeant First Class He served as a Recruiter Station Commander for the Army and received the US Army Gold Recruiter Badge with three Sapphire Achievement Stars. He also retired from the Columbus Police Department as Supervisor of the Firing Range. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his wife Eleanor L. Rhodes. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Thompson Rhodes, two daughters and son-in-law Sally Rhodes and Amy and William Henry Harris, III, all of Starkville, brothers Mitchell L. Rhodes (Roger Donodeo) of Atlanta, GA, and Thomas L. Rhodes and Jason C. Rhodes, both of Columbus, sisters and brothers-in-law Pamela J. and Tom Hickman of Victorville, CA, Deborah S. Reed of Phoenix, AZ and Barbara B. and Vince Salas of Saucier, MS. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica Weaver, Sierra Rhodes, William H. Harris, IV, Skylar Shields, Eleah Shields and Brennan Harris, three great-grandchildren, Makel, Jashaun and Ethan, twelve nieces and nephews and twenty-two great nieces and great nephews. The Columbus Police Dept. Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Association, 230 East Ohio St., Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611-3201.
