Robert Lee “Bob” Reeves, 87 of Columbus, MS passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 at Aurora Health and Rehabilitation Center, Columbus, MS. Visitation was Monday, July 25, 2016 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church fellowship hall. A funeral service followed at 11:00 AM in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church sanctuary with Dr. David Skinner officiating and Bro. Ralph Windle assisting. Interment was in Mt. Zion cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Reeves was born April 9, 1929 to the late Bryan and Annie Lyons Reeves in Steens, MS and was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS where he was an ordained deacon. Mr. Reeves was a founding member of District 3 Volunteer Fire Department where he was the assistant fire chief for 16 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a self-employed Master Carpenter. He also worked with West Brothers construction. Mr. Reeves was the self-proclaimed “Mayor” of New Hope and loved his community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives – Doris Ashcraft Reeves in 1971 and Merle Little Reeves in 2003 and all his brothers and sisters – Jeanette Miller, Billy Reeves, Virginia Williams, Catherine Parsons and Evelyn Shelton. Mr. Reeves is survived by his daughters – Rhonda Reeves (Tom) Griffin, Birmingham, AL and Laura (Jay) Harris, Columbus, MS; son – George Michael (Nancy) Reeves, Columbus, MS; grandchildren – Audrey Reeves O’Neal, Bob Reeves, Craig Reeves, Justin Harris and Garrett Harris and 8 great-grandchildren; step-children – Pat Hall, Steve Little and Paul Little, a host of nieces and nephews and special friend – Kathryn Leonard. Pallbearers will be Justin Harris, Bob Reeves, Craig Reeves, Garrett Harris, Andy O’Neal and Alan Leonard. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton James, Ray Crane, Ronnie Colburn, Ronnie West, Jim Kibe, Tommy Forrester, Tommy Hall, W. A. Caldwell, Bobby Brandon, Tommy Yates and Richard Cole.
