Chester Marshall Dowdle, age 79, from Johns Creek, GA, passed away at his home on March 11, 2016, after a battle with cancer. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 2:30 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. James Black officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, March 19, 2016, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Chester grew up in Columbus, MS, where he graduated from New Hope High in 1954. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He served in the U. S. Army where he achieved the rank of Captain. Chester was employed with JC Penney Co. for 36 years. He began his career in 1960 in Columbus, MS, and retired in Atlanta, GA, as Regional Personnel Manager in 1996. He was a devoted member of Peachtree Corners Baptist Church of Norcross, GA. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Harmond Dowdle, their 3 children, and four grandsons. Deborah Dowdle Hamm (Ricky), Taylor and Trevor Hamm, Brent Dowdle (Leigh), John Dowdle (Laura), Braxton and Cooper Dowdle, sister Michele Dowdle Daves (Larry); nieces and nephews. Chester is preceded by his parents Marshall and Geather Pate Dowdle of Columbus, MS, sister Christine Dowdle Lambert (John) of Vicksburg, MS.
