Robert Martin “Bunky” Williams, 83, of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, August, 25, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2015 from 11am-1pm at Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. A Funeral Service will follow at 1pm at Fairview Baptist Church with Bro. Shelby Hazzard and Bro. Brad Wright officiating. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Williams was born August 8, 1932 to the late Martin and Barbara Thweatt Williams in Columbus, MS and married Joyce Burgess on September 17, 1953. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Williams was a member of several organizations and several child abuse groups. He was a member of the National Cartoonist Association, a Board member of Youth Challenge Inc., a Gideon, and attended Ole Miss and Mississippi State University. Mr. Williams was also known as “Uncle Bunky” on a television program on WCBI called “Fun Time” for 20 years. He retired after serving 17 years with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department as a Child Abuse officer. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife-Joyce Burgess Williams, Columbus, MS; daughters-Pamela (John Hansford) Hoffman, Hagan, GA and Sandra (Fred) Schaffer, Charleston, SC; Grandchildren-Jennifer (Scott) Devereaux, Hattiesburg, MS ; Jon (Kelley) Comer, Alamogordo, NM; Benjamin Schaffer, Durham, NH; 3 great-grandchildren; cousin-Gene Williams; and niece-Deborah Lollar. Pallbearers will be Jason Counts, Robby Donoho, Travis Morrow, Rufus Ward, Straton Karatassos, Dean Green, Curtis Jones, J. D. Reed, Tony Cooper, and Paul Mims. Donations may be made to Woodland Baptist Church, Uncle Bunky’s Children, 3033 Ridge Road, Columbus, MS 39705, to benefit neglected and abused children.
