Nezzie “Jane” F. Shalles, 85 of Columbus passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 15, 2009 from 4 – 6 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 16, 2009 at 2 PM at First Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Shawn Parker officiating. Mrs. Shalles will lie-in-state from 1 -2 PM at the church. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Shalles was born November 11, 1923 in Tyro, AR to the late Frank and Leota Smith Freeman and was a resident of Columbus, MS for the past forty-eight years having moved from Greenville, MS. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus, MS where she was a member of the Eloise Crossley Sunday School Class, WMU, Triple L, Women for Missions, and was a participant in the Watchman Prayer Group. Mrs. Shalles was a retired secretary at MUW with sixteen years of service, and enjoyed quilting and sewing Mrs. Shalles is survived by her husband of sixtythree years, George Shalles, Columbus, MS; son – Siegfried L. (Annette) Shalles, Los Alamos, NM; daughter Robin (Jeffery) Duncan, Columbus, MS; sister – Maurine Price, Gould, AR; brother – Frank Freeman, Dumas, AR ; two grandchildren – Kimberly (Joe) Loncar, Rebecca Duncan and two great grandchildren – Philip Loncar and Paul David Loncar. Pallbearers will be Forrest Allgood, Steve McEwen, Raymond Gross, Bobby Patrick, Bunk Harpole, Don Freshour and Clyde Stokes. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Eloise Crossley Sunday School Class, members of the George Shalles Sunday School Class, M.P. Biddy and Walter Cole.
