MILLPORT, Ala. — Nelda McGahey Richards, 79, died Nov. 1, 2012, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Services are Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home with Ricky Kimbel, Les Baxter and Sonny McLellan officiating. Burial will follow in Millport City Cemetery. Mrs. Richards was raised in the Bethlehem community of Pickens County where she attended Bethlehem School and Pickens County High where she was a member of the Beta Club. She married the love of her life on November 8 1949, raised three children and worked for American Bosch and United Technologies for 42 years. Mrs. Richards loved football and basketball and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening and entertaining family and friends. She was a long time, active member of the Millport Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Preston McGahey and Laudice Bonner McGahey. Survivors include her husband, James W. Richards of Millport; daughters, Bethany Kendrick (Bobby) of Millport and Denise Hicks (Mark) of Moundville; son, James Hoyt Richards (Janice) of Northport; grandchildren, Tracey Richards, Jeremy Ferraez, Chad Ferraez, Jennifer Kendrick, Joshua Durden, Christopher Jones, Danniel Tackett, Laura Beth Tackett and Jayna Hicks; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice Parham of Northport and Louisene Elliott of Reform; and brothers, Dale McGahey of Pinson and Geral McGahey of Reform. Pallbearers are Jeff McGahey, Robby Parham, Bobby Parham, Derek McGahey, Jeremy Ferraez, Chad Ferraez, Joshua Durden and Jerry Elliot. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Phil Hemstreet, Dr. Daly, Jerry and Sarah Sparks, Dan and Gail Prater, Rudolf and Betsy Stripling, Klaus and Carol Cox, Earl, Peggy and Danny Shaw.
