Mary Louise King Brown, died February 25, 2009 at Aurora Australis Lodge. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Friendship Cemetery with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating and Gunter and Peel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Brown was born June 15, 1914, in Starkville, MS, on the campus of A&M College, now Mississippi State University to the late Mary Louise Burkitt and H. Edward King, Sr. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1918 where she taught Sunday school and vacation bible school. Mrs. Brown was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School, MSCW in 1935 and did her Graduate work at Mississippi State University. She worked for 10 years for Dr.’s H. H. McClanahan, James Doster, E. Q. Withers, W. L. Stallworth, J. E. Boggess. She was a teacher and coach for the Columbus Public Schools and Instructor at MUW, where she sponsored the MSCW-MUW Cancer Society for 15 years and sponsored Alpha Epsilon Delta, the premedical fraternity and Lambda Tau, the premedical technology fraternity. She was a member of Miss. Branch Huguenot Society where she served as State Treasurer and also corresponding secretary, the Shuk-Ho-Ta-Tom-A-Ha chapter of the DAR, the Stephen D. Lee Chapter of the UDC, the Fontaine-Maury Society, the National Retired Teacher’s Association, the Mississippi Retired Teacher’s Association, the Columbus Lowndes Retired Teacher’s association, Life member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, former member of Pi Tau Chi, Beta Beta Beta, Lambda Tau and Kappa Kappa Iota. Mrs. Brown is survived by her son, John Elijah “Lige” Brown of Winter Park, CO; daughter, Beverly Brown Miles Chapman (Fred) of Sedona, AZ; daughterin- law, Kay Williams Brown of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Charles “Chuck” Miles, Jr., John R. Miles, Meredith N. Brown, and Ashley F. Bridgeforth; great grandchildren, James Travis Miles, Jared Robbins Miles, Stephanie Ellis Miles, Emma Grace Bridgeforth, Elijah McWilliams Bridgeforth, and Isabelle Rose Bridgeforth.
