Martha Ann Sledge, 83, of Columbus, MS passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT. A visitation will be Saturday, November 14, 2020, from 10:30- 11:30 AM at Murrah’s Chapel Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 AM in Murrah’s Chapel cemetery with Bro. David Coleman officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Sledge was born on February 7, 1937, in Columbus, MS to the late Rachel Dickens Hayes and Clyde Hayes Sr. She loved animals, taking care of her chickens and taking care of others. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sledge is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Eastland Sledge; daughter, Cynthia Spangler; brothers, James “Bud” Hayes, Johnny Hayes and Clyde Hayes; and sisters, Elizabeth Maxey and Pearl Mize. Mrs. Sledge is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Jeff) Walker of Columbus, MS; sons, Raymond (Margie) Sledge of Ethelsville, AL and Billy Wayne (Sue) Whatley of Coldwater, MS; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Leon Hayes; and sisters, Joyce Allen and Sarah Richardson. Pallbearers will be Wayne Whatley, John Walker, Nathan Sledge, Justin Sledge, Green Bailey and Lucas Whatley. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Bryant, Albert Richardson and Robert Richardson.
