STARKVILLE — Marilyn Ruth Burney Thompson, 90, died Oct. 14, 2018, at her residence. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Oktibbeha Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-1:30 p.m. prior to services at the church. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Thompson was born June 20, 1928, in Crystal Springs, to the late Velma McCoy Burney and Ben Ike Burney. She was a graduate of Co-Lin Junior College and was formerly employed with the Baptist Women’s Association at Mississippi State University and the Starkville Chamber of Commerce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Thompson. She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Thompson-Klein of Lopez Island, Washington, Lydia Boutwell of Meridian and Martha Underhill of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; son, John Thompson of Idaho Springs, Colorado; brother, Ben Burney of Crystal Springs; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
