TUPELO — Marie Henderson Lowther, 96, died March 18, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, with United States Navy military honors, at the chapel of Calvert Funeral Home in West Point with the Rev. Barry Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow at Cairo Cemetery in West Point. Visitation is today from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Lowther was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Clay County to the late William Wallace and Lila Reid Henderson. She graduated from Siloam High School in 1940 and served in the United States Navy. While serving, she worked at the Secret and Confidential Mail Room in Arlington, Virginia, and was in the 4th Regiment of Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES). Marie was formerly employed with the Veteran’s Administration, Warner Robins Air Material Area in Prairie, Columbus Air Force Base with the security police and the Corp of Engineers in Aberdeen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Murphy Lowther; daughter, Martha Greeson; and sister, Mary Frances Henderson. She is survived by her son, Mike Lowther of Houston, Texas; brother, Reid Henderson of Prosperity, South Carolina; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren Pallbearers will be Tim Golson, Joel Williams, Ricky Blake, Jimmy Edwards, Rodney Johnson and Eugene Davis.
