Proverbs 31 says, “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.” She was a retired school teacher and social worker. But her most important work was for her family and her church. She taught Sunday School, was a WMU director, and went on mission trips with her husband to Massachusetts, New York, and Washington. The writer of Proverbs says, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also,. . . . A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” Cooking and caring for her husband and her children; teaching children to read, to love and trust in the Lord; serving God through mission trips, and giving of her time and money to her church–these are the “works [that will] praise her in the gates.” Pallbearers were John Morris, Brett Simpson, John Cook, Matthew Simpson, Kendall Shelton, and Ken Simpson. Honorary pallbearers were Martha and Bobby Shelton, members of Stansel Baptist Church, PCMC employees, Dr. Lee Richardson and staff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Stansel Baptist Church, PO Box 430, Reform, AL 35481.
