Louis M. Thomasson, 88, of Columbus, MS passed away Friday, March 27, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation was held Sunday, March 29, 2009, from 6 – 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 30, 2009, at 4 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenny Gardner officiating and Bro. Michael Shelton assisting. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS, directing. Mr. Thomasson was born October 17, 1920, in Millport, AL to the late Marshall and Mollie Bell Parks Thomasson and has been a resident of Columbus, MS since 1956 having moved from Clarksdale, MS. He was a veteran of World War II, assigned the 502nd Quarter Master Car Company, often driving General Patton to the battlefield. Mr. Thomasson also participated in the Normandy invasion. He worked at Freehart Bakery and retired from Hardin’s Bakery. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomasson is preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Thomasson is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcine Fowler Thomasson, Columbus, MS; sons, Alan Thomasson, Gulfport, MS and Larry (Jenny) Thomasson, Columbus, MS; brothers, Bill Thomasson and Sammy (Diane) Thomasson, both of Memphis, TN; grandson, Bryant (Jessica) Thomasson, Columbus, MS; and great grandson, Hunter Thomasson, Columbus, MS.
