COLUMBUS — Louis Buchanan Sr., 79, died Aug. 22, 2012, at his residence. Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Northside M.B. Church in Columbus with Minister Louis Buchanan Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens. Visitation is today from 12-6 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mr. Buchanan was born Sept. 28, 1933, to the late Charlie Buchanan Sr. and Beatrice Gardner. He retired from Baldor Electric after 44 years of service and was a member of Club O.L.S. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and former business owner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, George Buchanan; sister, Vrenetta Buchanan; siblings, Charlie Buchanan Jr., Costa Lee Buchanan, Ivory Buchanan and Toby Buchanan. He is survived by his children, Louis Buchanan of Tupelo, Christine Adams of Dionore, Ga., Joyce Griffin of Wren, Pat Thomas of Columbus, Victor Johnson of Southaven, Gean Buchanan of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kirk Sharp of Shannon; siblings, Eddie T. Buchanan of Shannon, Edward Buchanan of Tupelo, Beatrice Wallace of Shannon, Shirley Dennis and Willie Mae Buchanan, both of Tupelo; and 16 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Roderick Richardson, Orlando Buchanan, Robert Green, Johnthan Buchanan, Gene Buchanan Jr. and Dewayne Adams II.
