Lois Hamway

Lois Marie Grafentin Pyatt Hamway, 92, passed away of natural causes on February 5, 2014, in Baton Rouge, LA. She was born in Omaha, NE, on June 27, 1921, to E.J. Grafentin and Lillian Paulson Grafentin. She is survived by 3 daughters, Barbara Pyatt Lankford and husband David of Baton Rouge, LA; Lynn Pyatt Shoen of Ithaca, MI; and Kathryn Pyatt Pepper and husband Fred of The Woodlands, TX; step-son, Edward G. Hamway, Jr. and wife Joan of Summitt, NJ; brother-in-law, Everett Pyatt and wife Sue of Arlington, VA; seven grandchildren, Christopher Risey and wife Jennifer of Marietta, GA; Bradley Shoen of Ithaca, MI; Carson and Riley Pepper of The Woodlands, TX, Craig Hamway and wife Erin of Colleyville, TX; Jennifer Hamway Six and husband Scot of Westport, CT; and Rebecca Hamway of Houma, LA; ten greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her first husband, Burley A. Pyatt, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.) and second husband, Edward G.Hamway, both of Columbus, MS; brother, Roland E. Grafentin of Tallahassee, FL; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Hamway Horne and husband John, of Florida. While living in Columbus, Mrs. Hamway was a docent with the Florence Hazard Museum (Lee Home), charter member of the Retired Officers Wives Club, member of the Tombigbee Chapter of Retired Officers’ Association, charter member of the Columbus, MS Kennel Club, and member/past vice president of Friends of the Library. She also was a member and past parliamentarian of the Military Officers Association of American Auxiliary, Baton Rouge, LA. She was a member of St.Paul’s Episcopal Church, Columbus MS. A graveside memorial service will be held March 21, 10 AM, in Friendship Cemetery, in Columbus MS. The Rev. Ann Harris, St. Paul’s, will officiate.
