COLUMBUS — Lizzie Johnson Taylor (Mama Liz), 96, died May 13, 2016, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Graveside services are 3 p.m. today at Wofford Cemetery near Vernon, Alabama, with the Rev. James Black officiating. Visitation is 1:30-2:30 p.m. before service time at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Taylor was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Andrew and Florence Stanford Johnson. She was formerly employed with South Central Bell. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Tom Taylor; five brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by daughter, Jan Horton of Columbus; two granchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Christian Horton, Andy Horton, Taylor Kelly, Gage Horton, Kaleb Horton and Cameron Horton.
