SMITHVILLE — Lewis H. Thompson, 87, died May 15, 2009, at the Riverplace Nursing Center in Amory. Services are today at 2 p.m. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel with Hoyet Hathcock and Mickey Beam officiating. Burial will follow at Maxey Cemetery. Visitation is today and will continue until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Smithville to the late Condie Lee and Vangie Bennett Thompson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from Monroe Trouser and was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Ross; sons, Howell, Benny, and Darwin Thompson; daughters, Susan Elam and Kelly Thompson. He is survived by his daughters, Dannis Mason, Vickie Weatherbee, Allene Morgan and Kathy Baucom, all of Smithville; sister, Jeanette Roche of Smithville; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Brad, Clay and Chad Thompson, Cayce Carter, Jody Powell, Derek Thompson, Shaun Kinsey and Wesley Hacker. Memorials may be made to First Friends, P.O. Box 540, Amory, MS 38821.
