Josie W. Brown Cunningham, 76, died July 1, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Services are Sunday at 3 p.m. at Southside MB Church in Columbus with the Rev. Rayfield Evans officiating.Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. Visitation is today from 1-8 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus; family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Cunningham was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Lowndes County to the late Joseph Brown Sr. and Earline Fisher. She was a cook for 40 years at the Holiday Inn. She was a member of Southside MB Church and served as the youth choir director, a member of the adult choir, Mother’s board, Missionary Board and New Member’s Ministry. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Willie and Joseph Brown Jr.; and sisters, Rosie and Louise Brown. She is survived by her husband, Johnnie W. Cunningham Sr., of Columbus; daughters, Brenda Washington, Carolyn Henderson, Janice Ryland, and Valerie Chandler, all of Columbus; sons, James Cunningham, of Columbus, Johnny Cunningham, of Montgomery, Ala., Curtis Cunningham, of Frisco, Texas, Steve Cunningham, of Ridgeland, and Vertis Cunningham, of Frederick, Md., sister, Bobbie Hill, of Columbus; brothers, Jessie, Jerry, and James Brown, all of Columbus; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tavoris, Hophnie, Richard Cunningham, Shauncey Henderson and Terry and Rashad Hill.
