Joseph R. Henderson, 75 of Columbus, MS passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at his residence. Visitation will be held Friday, February 6, 2009 from 6 – 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 2 PM at Victory Tabernacle Church, Columbus, MS with Pastor Granville Wiggins officiating. Interment will be in Lone Oak Cemetery, Steens, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Henderson was born September 6, 1933 in Tuscaloosa, AL to the late Joe and Ruth Snider Henderson and was a resident of Columbus, MS for the past fifty-three years having moved from Tuscaloosa, AL. He delivered propane gas for Suburban Propane with thirty-five years of service and Dowdle Gas Company with five years of service having retired in 1996. Mr. Henderson was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an avid fisherman and loved to tinker with electronics. Mr. Henderson was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church, Columbus, MS. Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife, Helen K. Henderson, Columbus, MS; son – Randy Joe Henderson, Columbus, MS; step-children – Marie Bryant, Bluff City, TN; Wayne Whatley, Southaven, MS; sisters – Ann King, Tuscumbia, AL; Nell Malcom, Tuscaloosa, AL; Jean Kitts, New Augusta, MS; brothers – Ward Henderson, Tuscaloosa, AL; Tom Henderson, Tuscaloosa, AL; and Wayne Henderson, Coker, AL; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Pallbearers will be Rusty King, Howard Malcom, David Shelton, Jackie Smith, Dan Smith and Bobby Richardson. Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of Dowdle Gas Company, members of Victory Tabernacle Church and nurses of Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT Hospice.
