MADISON, Ala. — John Wallace Mason, 83, died April 10, 2010. Services are Monday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Madison, Ala., with Dr. Joe McKeever officiating. Burial will follow in Madison Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Monday one hour before service time. Madison Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mason was born June 14, 1926, in Spartanburg County, S.C. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1946. He moved to Columbus to help establish the Belk Department Store. In 1960, he joined Seminole Manufacturing Co., and retired as vice president of Southern Sales in 1988. He was a member and past president of the Columbus Lions Club and Mississippi Men’s and Boy’s Apparel Club. He was also a member of the Mississippi and Alabama Seniors Golf Association. He was a life deacon for First Baptist Church of Columbus. In 2007, he moved to Madison, where he became member of First Baptist Church of Madison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Connie Mason; daughters, Gayle M. George, of Madison, Mary Beth M. Allen, of Cullman, Ala., Robin Boyles, of Jackson; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Madison, Ala.
