SULLIGENT, Ala. — John Robert Coleman, 68, died March 10, 2009, at his residence. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent with Bishop Foster Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Coleman was born Aug. 4, 1940, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late Horace and Mary Maebell Salters Coleman. He was a member of Shiloh CME Church. He attended Lamar County Training School and was employed as a truck driver with Glasgow Trucking in Vernon, Ala. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Coy and Ossie Coleman; and sisters, Zelma Smith, Robbie Guyton and Willie Mae Cribbs. He is survived by his wife, Betty Metcalfe Coleman of Sulligent; daughters, Robin Hollis of Winfield, Ala., Shanta Coleman of Vernon and Ashley Coleman of Huntsville, Ala.; stepdaughters, Tracey Hayden of Kennedy, Ala., Tamekia Gardner of Guin, Ala., and Tina Gardner of Sunnyvale, Calif.; stepson, Terry Gardner of Sulligent; sister, Annie C. Hollis of Sulligent; seven grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Fred Kidd, Randall Nalls, Carlus and Darlis Metcalfe, and Ronald and Michael Cribbs.
