James R. “Jimmy” Jordan, age 83, died Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Canaan Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Shaw officiating; burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday November 13, 2020, from 6 until 8 PM at Canaan Baptist Church, and again Saturday one hour prior to service. Mr. Jordan was born on June 19, 1937, in Columbus to the late Harold Duncan and Celia Druemont Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a graduate of SD Lee High School, Class of 1955. He attended Mississippi State and served in the Army Reserve. He was a civil service employee for over 30 years. Mr. Jordan was a longtime licensed funeral director at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home, and served as a deputy coroner in Lowndes County for many years. Mr. Jordan was an active member of Canaan Baptist Church, an avid fan of NASCAR and Alabama football. He also loved to watch Western movies. He was a local history buff and collector of antique coins and guns. Mr. Jordan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Foreman Jordan; and his son-in-law, John Kemp. Survivors include his daughters, Gail Jordan Kemp and Lisa Jordan Swims (Michael); son, James R. “Jim” Jordan, Jr.; grandchildren, Ashley Glasgow (Scott), John Eric Kemp (Carley), James R. “Trey” Jordan III, Megan Jordan, Gage Jordan, Haley Swims and Emily Gail Swims; great-grandchildren, Katie Hoglund, Tristan Hoglund, Brady Scott Glasgow, John Thomas Glasgow, Jackson Kemp Glasgow and John Wayne “Tripp” Kemp. Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Weldon, John Eric Kemp and Scott Glasgow. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Duckworth, Dr. Joel Butler, Frank “Greasey” Griffin III, John “Buddy” Dyson, Charles Weldon, Jr., Mary Shaw, Katherine Garner, Miriam Killebrew, Employees of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home and Members of Canaan Baptist Church.
