Jim McCusker Cunningham Sr., 78, died March 17, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Services are Saturday at 3 p.m. at Charity MB Church in Brooksville with the Rev. Bobby McCarter officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Garden Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is today from 1-5 p.m. at Jones Memorial Funeral Home in Macon, and the body will be at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday. Mr. Cunningham was born July 17, 1930, to the late Willie Sr. and Eddie McCusker Cunningham. He graduated from Pike County Agricultural High School in 1947. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Second Division Anti Aircraft Unit during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He attended Alcorn A&M College and worked as a brick mason for over 30 years. He worked for the U.S. Postal Services for 14 years and retired in 1995. He moved to Brooksville and was a member of Second Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon. He later joined Hopewell Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Tom, Willie and Claude Cunningham, Maggie Douglas and Deborah Mallett. He is survived by his wife, Vealnor Allen Cunningham of Columbus; son, Jim McCusker Cunningham Jr. of Columbus; daughters, Sharon Cunningham Usery of Kennesaw, Ga., and Patonya Cunningham of Columbus; brothers, Fred Cunningham of Jackson and Dr. George Cunningham; sister, Eartha Jean Martin of Magnolia; and 10 grandchildren.
