COLUMBUS — Jessie James Petty, 79, passed away.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Trotter Convention Center. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from noon-6 p.m. today, at Lee-Sykes Funeral Home. Lee-Sykes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Petty was born Sept. 21, 1943, in Crawford, to the late Rass T. Anthony and Ethel L. “Bubba” Sharpe Petty. He was formerly employed at Ruth’s Shop and as owner and operator of Petty’s Janitorial Service, Petty’s Rental Property, Petty’s Classic Care I, Petty’s Classic Care II, Petty’s Christian Childcare and Petty’s Laundry Service. He was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Anthony Marzette; and brothers, Rass Tucker Anthony, William Andrew Anthony and Noah Washington Petty.
He is survived by his children, Larry L. Petty of Columbus, Lisa D. Hancock of Houston, Texas, and Lenzell A. Petty of Atlanta, Georgia; step-daughter, Whitney Young of Austin, Texas; sisters, Jarnita Petty Brown of Buffalo, New York, Carrie Petty Givens of Long Beach, California, Earnestine Montgomery and Betty Jean Wideman, both of Flint, Michigan; brothers, Cartrey Petty, James Ely, both of Columbus, Willie J. Petty of Memphis, Tennessee, James Earl Petty of Crawford and Lee A. Petty of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tony Brown, David Petty, James P. Petty, Marcus Washington, Willie J. Petty Jr., Anthony Petty and Dondeke Petty.
