Jerry Guess, 77, passed away on Sunday, January 06, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle. Visitation will be Tuesday; January 08,2019 from 6-8pm at Lowndes Funeral Home. Funeral Services will held on Wednesday; January 09, 2019 at 2:00pm from New Salem Baptist Church with Bro Mel Howton to officiate, Wayne Hall and David Guess will assist. There will be a visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will follow at Ross Cemetery under the direction of Lowndes Funeral Home. Bro. Jerry Guess was born July 27, 1941 in Durant, MS to the Late Willie and Margaret Guess. He was a 1960 graduate of Ackerman High School. After his high school graduation he was working in Jackson and he met his sweetheart Judy Seely, they later married in Monroe County, MS, on February 10, 1961. Bro. Guess was called to the ministry and was Ordained in 1965 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church (Newton County, MS). He first Served as Pastor of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church (Newton County, MS). Bro Guess received an Associates of Arts Degree from Clarke Memorial College and later earned his Associates of Divinity in Pastoral Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (New Orleans, LA). While in the ministry Bro. Guess’ longest tenure was with Bethsaidia Baptist Church (Philadelphia, MS) serving as Pastor for nearly 12 years. In 2001 Bro Guess’ health forced him to retire after serving at Millport Baptist Church (Millport, AL). He was a loving husband and devoted family man, he loved his garden and was very proud of his green thumb. He also enjoyed beekeeping as a hobby. Together with his wife Judy they created lovely wood creations that they sold at various Arts & Crafts shows and Flea Markets for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Curtis Guess. Bro. Guess is survived by his wife of 57 years Judy Guess, His two children, of whom he was so proud of Jeremy (Gina) Guess of Hamilton and Sherry (Garrett) Bustin of Caledonia; Grandchildren: Sarah (Tyler) Fulton, Stone Bustin, Malerie Guess and Tanner Bustin.
