WEST POINT — James Gibson, 83, died Feb. 8, 2009, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Clinton. Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in West Point with the Rev. Carlos Orr officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation is today from 3-6 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel in West Point. Mr. Gibson was born April 9, 1925, in West Point to the late Josh and Sarah Gibson. He was a member of New Hope MB Church in West Point. He attended Clay County Public School in West Point. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He later attended Mary Holmes College Trade School. He retired from The Justice Company in West Point after 30 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lou Walker Gibson; brothers, George, Robert and Joe Willie Gibson; daughters, Sarah Bell Caldwell, Mattie L. Bell and Mary Ann Gibson; and son, Robbie L. Gibson. He is survived by his sons, George Gibson of West Point, and Charles and Josh P. Gibson of Houston, Texas; daughters, Shirley M. McDonald and Brenda Briscoe of Jackson and Gloria N. Gibson of Houston, Texas; sister, Joyce L. Gibson of West Point; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
