Ina Richardson Thompson, age 89, of Columbus, MS died April 10, 2009 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, MS. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 1:30 PM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Ron McDougal officiating. Visitation will also be Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Thompson was born September 24, 1919 in Caledonia, MS to the late John Dill and Ruby Thweat Richardson. She worked for Dr. Leon Ellis and helped deliver over 1000 babies in Lowndes County homes. Mrs. Thompson later owned several small businesses in the Columbus and Grenada areas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Thompson, Sr., brother, Robert Richardson, and sisters Ricky Holiness and Katherine Harpster, as well as former husbands Maurice E. Gurley and John W. Lancaster. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Gurley Hinton of Palm Beach, FL, and Barbara Gurley Wilson of Columbus, MS; sons Terry Lancaster of Tunica, MS, and Darrius Lancaster of West Point, MS; brother, Ed Richardson of Columbus, MS, sisters, Charlene Richardson Brownlee of Columbus, MS, and Gladys Richardson Howell of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Bennett E. Zinn, Jr., Tracy Rhynee Lindsay, Michael L .Zinn, Jonathan Lancaster, Rebecca Lancaster, and Darrius Lancaster, Jr. She also had six great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bennett E. Zinn, Jr., Michael L. Zinn, Jonathan Lancaster, Darrius Lancaster, Jr., Larry Richardson, and Tony Carley.
