Ike Winston Savelle, Sr., died May 6, 2019 at the age of 89 at his home in Columbus, Mississippi. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home, 2nd Avenue North, in Columbus. The funeral will be a graveside service on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. He was a native of Columbus, where he attended Lee High School, and upon graduation served one year in the U. S. Air Force. After his discharge, he attended Mississippi State University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and graduated in 1953 with a degree in Business and Finance. He began his career in the insurance business in 1950 with the Winston-Savelle Agency, and retired from that agency in 1992. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and had been active in community activities including Little League baseball, Boy Scouts, Lions Club, Jaycees, Masonic Lodge, and IOOF. He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman, and was president of the Hairston Bend Hunting Club for 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. R. and Anna Collins Savelle, his brothers C. R. Savelle, Jr. (Ruth) and Bill Savelle (Betty), and an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Willa, sons Winston (Bonny) and Stephen (Margaret), daughters Kathleen Stripling (Kim) and Leanne Richardson (Ron), grandchildren Trey Savelle, Drew Savelle, Nick Savelle, Anna Carrell, Collin Pulmano, Reese Traywick and Britt Stripling, nine nieces and nephews, and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Trey Savelle, Drew Savelle, Nick Savelle, Britt Stripling, Jonathan Carrell, Nick Traywick, Stan McCown, and Phillip Hill. Honorary pallbearers are the Lunch Bunch and members of the Hairston Bend Hunting Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of donor’s choice. .
