Herman Von Kanel

Herman W. Von Kanel, age 88, of Columbus, MS, passed away November 1, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 4, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel 2nd Ave. North Location with Rev. Mike Hall officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus with military honors. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until the time of the service. Mr. Von Kanel was born May 15, 1929, in Sessums, MS, to the late Paul and Rosena Plattner Von Kanel. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam serving in the United States Army and National Guard. Mr. Von Kanel was retired from Sanders Oil Company and attended New Salem Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Von Kane, Edmond Von Kanel, Lewis Von Kanel, and Ernest Von Kanel, and sister, Pauline Butler. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Minnie Pearl Von Kanel of Columbus, MS, daughters, Marie Barry and her husband Jeff of Millford, MA, Brenda Humphreys and her husband Homer of Reform, AL, and Norma Sanders and her husband Harry of Columbus, MS, sister, Carolyn Guist of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Terri Johnson, Wanda Holman, Jennifer Thompson, and Joshua Humphreys, and 5 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Steve Guist, Terry “Tab” Brewer, Johnny Gazaway, Carl Humphreys, Billy Moore, and Eddie Von Kanel. Memorials may be made to Trinity Heathcare, 230 Airline Rd., Columbus, MS 39702.
