George V. Dowdle, 58 of Millport, AL passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus, Ms. Born October 14th, 1959 to the late James and Imogene Dowdle, George was the husband of Kay Dowdle and the father of Sam and Jack Dowdle. He was the owner and operator of Dowdle Funeral Home for 30 years. He loved to watch his sons, Sam and Jack, play ball and was a member of Propst Memorial United Methodist Church. George was also an avid Alabama Football fan and Yankees Baseball fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee Dowdle and Imogene Davis Dowdle. George is survived by his wife, Kay Dowdle, sons; Sam and Jack Dowdle, brother, Henry Dowdle of Austin, TX., sister, Suzanne Smitherman of Gulf Shores, AL., nieces; Lisa (Shane) Foster of Kennedy AL, Marla (Jim) Jendzurski of Marietta, GA, Anne (Mark) Ciullo of Cincinnati, OH, Caroline Watkins of Millport AL, Natalie Watkins of Millport AL, and Katie (Jared) Swindle of Fayette, AL., nephews; Lee Leonard of Tuscaloosa, AL, Kade Watkins of Millport, AL, and Knox Watkins of Millport, AL. Funeral Services will be Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Dowdle Funeral Home Chapel with visitation Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Sonny McClellan will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Donald McAdams, Tommy Shaw, Oscar Wilson, Wayne Trapp, Bill Black, and Ricky Turner. Burial will be in Millport City Cemetery.
