George Barentine

George Jackson Barrentine, 92, of Columbus, MS, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Harding officiating, and Bro. Matt Moehring assisting. The interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Columbus, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Barrentine was born on April 4, 1930, in Tutwiler, MS, to the late Charles Barrentine and Mary Etta Barrentine. He served his country in the US Air Force for 30 years. As an avid gardener, he enjoyed growing roses in particular. Most importantly, he was active in his churches; serving as a literature purchaser, usher, tract ministry, and many others for Antioch and Kolola Springs.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barrentine is preceded in death by siblings, Charles Barrentine, Jr., Ralph Barrentine, Lester Barrentine, Sam Barrentine, Sadie Parker, John Barrentine, James Barrentine, Catherine Barrentine and Joseph Barrentine.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Agatha Lee “Gay” Barrentine; children, Marion Irvin “Junior” (Lois) Barrentine, Teresa Gay Gallagher, Michele Lee (Mike) Swindle; grandchildren, Timothy Barrentine, Stephani Robertson, Casey Smith, McKenzie Swindle, Chris Hackworth, Angie Hackworth; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Bill Ballentine of McCarley, MS, and Thomas Barrentine, of Cherry Long, GA.
Pallbearers will be Rev. Scott Larsen, Mike Swindle, Greg Ballard, Charles Parker, Charles Culpepper and Gene O’Neal.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Ballard and Marion Barrentine.
The family requests that visiting guests and congregation wear facial coverings or other protective devices.
