MACON — Farrell Fowler Hudgins, 78, died April 9, 2010, at Noxubee General Hospital. Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Macon with the Revs. Bob Whiteside and Claude Fleming officiating. Visitation is today from 6-8 p.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home. Mr. Hudgins was born Feb. 24, 1932, in New Brockton, Ala., to the late John Edward and Etta Fowler Hudgins. He was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School. He attended the University of Alabama. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Jitney Jungle in Tuscaloosa and became supervisor with Piggly-Wiggly in Tuscaloosa. In 1979, he and his wife moved to Macon and became owners of Piggly-Wiggly store in Macon. He later bought a grocery store in Shuqualak and operated both businesses until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Macon Lions Club, Frith Lake Club and the Magnolia Club. He was also a member of the Ageless Wonders and the Jolly 20 Club. He is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Hudgins, of Macon; sister, Marsha Wallace, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and brother, Samuel Hudgins, of Atlanta. Pallbearers will be Patrick and Lester Hopkins, Eugene Smith, J.C. Poe Jr., Douglas Poe, Jeff House, Craig Sullivan, Lance Hall and Randy Wallace.
