BROOKSVILLE — Essie Hopkins McDavid, 88, died March 7, 2009, at Hunterwood Nursing Home in Charlotte, N.C. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Second James Creek MB Church with the Rev. Michael Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Brooksville. Visitation is Friday from 3-6 p.m. with family hour from 5-6 p.m. at Lee-Sykes Funeral Home of Macon. Mrs. McDavid was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Brooksville to the late Jim and Millie Hopkins. She was a retired educator in the Noxubee County School System. She was a member of Second James Creek MB Church, where she was active in the Christian Education Department and participated in the Sunday school program. She served as a Sunday school teacher, church secretary and mother of the church. She graduated from high school in Meridian and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Jackson State College in Jackson. She was a member of Noxubee County Homemakers Club, the Retired Teachers Association, Noxubee County Democratic Executive Committee, Golden Circle, Heroines of Jericho Brooksville Court Lodge #574. She held several positions including the Court Ancient Matron and Third District Secretary. Pallbearers will be her family and friends.
