Elizabeth Smith Rowley, 93, of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, October 31, 2022, at her home.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM, Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Sarah Windham officiating. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Elizabeth was born January 30, 1929, in Evansville, IN, to the late Alfred Clinton Smith and Edna Pauline Paul Smith. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. In her younger days, she taught friends and family how to water ski, although she couldn’t swim! Elizabeth loved anything to do with flowers. So it’s only natural that after retiring from real estate, she worked part-time at Ann’s Florist. Several times, she served as president of the Columbus Pilot Club, as well as the Friendly City Garden Club, where she was a long-time member. Monthly meetings with the other members of the Birthday Club were a highlight for her. She was also an avid bridge player and a fan of both the Atlanta Braves and Mississippi State Bulldogs.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rowley is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon H. “Bud” Rowley, Sr.; sisters, Doris Covey, Margaret Craddock, Vera Mills and Ruth Askins; and brother, Alfred Clinton Smith.
Elizabeth Rowley is survived by daughters, Randolyn Rowley, of Columbus, MS, Paula (Charles) Speed of Ethelsville, AL; son, Vernon H (Cindy) Rowley, Jr, of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Liza (Jamey) Randall, Katy (Matt) Atkins, Adam (Paige) Speed, Luke (Sarah) Speed, Anna (Jonathon) Carrell, Collin (Stephen) Pulmano and Amanda Rowley; great-grandchildren, Jada Harris, Josh Randall, Brayden Brown, Sawyer Randall, Tyler McAdams, Abbi Speed, Laney Speed, Caesar Pulmano, Holly Pulmano, Charlotte Pulmano, Nathan Pulmano, Kenley Carrell, Jonathon Carrell, Andrew Carrell, Kaitlyn Carrell, Hoyt Speed, Parker Speed and Silas Speed; and brothers-in-law, Bill Rowley and Eugene Askins.
