Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Trevathan Johnson, age 44 of Vernon, AL, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, in Destin, FL while on an annual family vacation. Mrs. Johnson was born May 12, 1972, in Norfold, VA then grew up in Starkville, MS. She graduated from Starkville High School in 1990. She attended Millsaps College from 1990-19992 then earned her BA in Economics at Mississippi State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1994. While at Mississippi State, Mrs. Johnson was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, was a national finalist for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, was voted Miss Reveille in 1994, and was first alternate in Miss MSU. After graduating from Mississippi State, Mrs. Johnson was an account executive for WTOK-TV in Meridian, MS and WBIR-TV in Knoxville, TN, then returned home to Starkville to become the Director of Development for the College of Arts & Sciences for Mississippi State. She later worked as a consultant for several non-profit, for- profit, and public entities in economic business development. Mrs. Johnson was involved in public service throughout her life for several organizations including John C. Stennis Center for Public Service in Starkville, MS, The Columbus Arts Council in Columbus, MS (Past President), HEARTS After School Tutoring Program in Columbus, MS (Past President), Exchange Club of Columbus, MS (Past President), and the Mississippi District of the National Exchange Club. She also worked with the Golden Triangle Regional Coalition, Loaves and Fishes Community Soup Kitchen, Tupelo Sanctuary Hospice House, United Way, Humane Society, and Junior League. She had recently become a member of the PEO Sisterhood. There will be a visitation Wednesday, June 29, at the Frist Baptist Church in Vernon, AL 5:30-8:30 PM. There will be a visitation Thursday, June 30, at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus 3-5PM, with a memorial service to follow at 5:00 PM with the Rev. Sandra DePriest officiating. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Samuel Andrew “Andy” Johnson of Vernon, AL; her parents, Larry (Joy) Trevathan of O’Fallon, MO and Carol Trevathan of Flowood, MS; her sister, Melissa (Billy) Weeks of Durham, NC; her niece, Madison Weeks; her grandmother, Aldena Trevathan of Baptist Home in Ironton, MO; her father and mother-in-law, Sam and Becky Johnson of Vernon, AL; her sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Mark Granen of New Home, MS; three aunts, Lorraine (Don) Swindol of Bryan, TX, Mary Crone of Sevierville, TN, and Nancy (David) Banks of Knoxville, TN; and five cousins, Jason (Jordan) Swindol of Bryan, TX, Dawn (Kenny) Todd of Rochester, NY, Kathryn (Keith Kelly) Crone of Brooklyn, NY, Bill (Sharon) Banks of Knoxville, TN, and Debbie (Chip) Tatum of Orlando, FL. She had a special love for her sister, niece, multiple godchildren, her dogs, and Mississippi State. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Edna Bell of Knoxville, TN, and Jack Trevathan of Memphis, TN.
