Elizabeth Daree Hughes, 69, of Columbus, MS passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 12:30-2:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 2:00PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Flynn officiating. Interment will be at Ethelsville Baptist Church Cemetery, Ethelsville, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Hughes was born February 3, 1948, in Monroe County, MS to the late Claude and Rebie Smithson Flynn. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School. Mrs. Hughes loved to go antiquing with her sister as often as possible and taking a trip to the casino when she could. Mrs. Hughes also loved to play video games with her grandson. She enjoyed gardening and growing her own vegetable garden. Mrs. Hughes enjoyed spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren. She will be truly missed. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her sisters- Jacqueline Flynn, Barbara Gilley, Genevieve Whitten, and Louise Edmonds; brothers- Wayne Flynn, Freddie Flynn, Earl Flynn, Johnny Flynn, and Jimmie Flynn. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her loving husband- Boyd “ Eugene” Hughes of Columbus, MS; daughter- Tracy (Rusty) House of Columbus, MS; son- Ben (Michele) Hughes of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren- Riley Hughes, Haley Hughes, Thomas House, and Tyler House; sisters- Jackie Jewell, and Nelda Spruill; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Eddie Joe Hughes, P.J. Hughes, Jason Jewell, Josh Jewell, Billy Spruill, and Jerry Spruill.
