Doris Evelyn Smithson Parks, age 82, of Columbus, MS, passed away September 6, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be Monday, September 10, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel. The interment will immediately follow at Egger Cemetery in Caledonia, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, September 9, 2012, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Parks was born August 15, 1930, in Monroe County, MS, to the late Cyrus and Ester Coleman Smithson. She worked for many years as a seamstress for Seminole Manufacturing and Bags By Pats. Mrs. Parks was a former member of Sulfur Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Wiley Parks. Survivors include her son, Larry Parks of Columbus, MS; daughter, Sherry Parks of Caledonia, MS; grandchildren, Tiffany McKay, Todd Parks (Kelly), Tyler Parks and Trey Wilson (Lynsey); great-grandchildren, Taylor Bagwell, Grace Parks, Trenton Waltman, Troy Parks, Jaxon Wilson, Makayla Shepherd and Sophia Shepherd; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Columbus Lowndes Humane Society, P.O. Box 85, Columbus, MS 39703.
