AMORY — Willie Dee Barnes, 94, died April 11, 2009, at his son’s residence. Services are today at 2 p.m. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Charles Coggins and Bro. Lloyd Minor officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will continue until service time today at the funeral home. Mr. Barnes was born September 23, 1914, in Vernon, Ala., to the late Addie and Lola Pearl McGee Barnes. He lived in Amory and later moved to Smithville. He had worked as plant manager for Monroe Trouser Manufacturing Co. in Smithville from 1953 until retirement in the early eighties. He was employed by the Longenecker family for 47 years. He was a U.S. veteran of World War II, a Mason, a member of the Eastern Star, and he attended First United Methodist Church in Amory. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Mae Northington Barnes; two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his son, Don William Barnes of Smithville; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Don II and David Barnes, David Strawbridge, Jim Young, Rae Murphree and Harry Northington. Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
