Clyde Hayes, Jr., 78 of Steens, MS passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center – West Point, MS. A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 2:30 PM at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Lamar County, AL with Bro. Edward Knox officiating; Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Hayes was born November 18, 1930, in Lowndes County, MS, to the late Rachael Dickers and Clyde Hayes, Sr. and was a lifetime resident of Lowndes County, MS. He retired after sixteen years of service as a mill operator for TXI. Mr. Hayes loved fishing, playing cards and working in his garden. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, James “Bud” Hayes. Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Lorene Hayes, Steens, MS; daughter, Bertha Lee Kennington, Steens, MS; son, Michael Wayne Hayes, Steens, MS; brothers, Johnny Hayes, Brooksville, MS; Leon Hayes, Jackson, MS; sisters, Elizabeth Maxey, Jackson, MS; Pearl Mize, Amory, MS; Sarah Richardson, Columbus, MS; Martha Ann Sledge, Columbus, MS; Joyce Allen, Summit, MS; two granddaughters, Heather Lippman and Monica Lippman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be deacons and members of the Antioch Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Little; Jackie Tripplett, Hubert Sledge, Troy Allen, Dr. John Cox, Willard Sims, and Roy Baldwin.
